Gairy Nichols - Broker-in-Charge

Gairy Nichols has spent a lifetime connected to Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, and the South Strand communities served by Dunes Realty. His experience with coastal real estate and vacation rentals began long before Dunes Realty became one of the area’s most established names.

Gairy grew up between Nichols, South Carolina, and Garden City Beach. During the school year, his days centered on hunting, fishing, and small-town life. Summers were spent at his family’s beach home, where he swam in the ocean, crabbed and water-skied in Murrells Inlet, and fished from the Garden City Pier.

The area looked very different then. Families often stayed in their beach cottages for months at a time, air conditioning was uncommon, and a used U.S. Army Jeep was practically essential for navigating the unpaved roads of Garden City Beach and Murrells Inlet.

In 1969, Gairy’s father, Billy Nichols, purchased a small real estate company that would become Dunes Realty. Gairy’s summers soon shifted from nonstop fun at the beach to cleaning vacation cottages and repairing screens on oceanfront porches. Those early responsibilities gave him a firsthand understanding of the resort market from every perspective, including property owners, vacation guests, rentals, sales, maintenance, and long-term community growth.

After graduating from Wofford College in 1975, Gairy continued building on that foundation. Through decades of leadership and family stewardship, he helped Dunes Realty grow into one of the South Strand’s most recognized companies for resort real estate sales and vacation rentals.

Service to the real estate profession and the local community has remained an important part of Gairy’s life. He is affiliated with REALTOR® associations at the national, state, and local levels and has earned the GRI, CRS, and CRB professional designations. He has served on numerous REALTOR® association committees and has maintained longstanding involvement with the Garden City Beach Community Association, Garden City Chapel, Belin United Methodist Church, and other civic organizations.

Gairy lives in Murrells Inlet with his wife, Marcia. They have three children—Jeni, Billy, and Katie—and five grandchildren.
